MSCHE Standard 2: Planning, Resource Allocation, and Institutional Renewal

An institution conducts ongoing planning and resource allocation based on its mission and goals, develops objectives to achieve them, and utilizes the results of its assessment activities for institutional renewal. Implementation and subsequent evaluation of the success of the strategic plan and resource allocation support the development and change necessary to improve and to maintain institutional quality.

Analysis of Evidences

A review of our Strategic Impact: 2006-2011 Planning Priorities [insert link when review is completed] shows that LBC has accomplished each of its Planning Priorities for this five-year period. Those accomplishments evidence the fact that LBC’s planning processes are effective and efficient and result in institutional renewal. In addition, our Preferred Future document shows that LBC has outlined seven specific areas in which to position itself for the next five years. However, a review of the planning process revealed that while long-range institutional planning occurs, incremental assessment of the plans in place occurs somewhat sporadically. While some formative evaluation does occur, and adjustments to plans and resource allocations do take place, these are usually not documented in an organized and prescribed fashion. Therefore, beginning in the Fall of 2011, a more systematic process of planning and evaluation of the planning process was put in place. The newly created position of Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness will assist the Cabinet with issues relating to the planning process. A three year on-going Strategic Plan was put in place in the Spring of 2012 with the goal of turning this into a rolling five-year plan by the fiscal year 2012-2013.
