ABHE Standard 4: Authority and Governance

 

The institution is legally constituted as a nonprofit organization authorized by its state or province to operate as an educational institution and grant all degrees and/or offer credentials. The institution has a governing board with legal and fiduciary responsibility to exercise appropriate oversight over institutional integrity, policies, resource development, and ongoing operations.

Analysis of Evidences

The Job Descriptions for both Corporation Members and members of the Board of Trustees contain an organizational chart that clearly defines the roles of the Corporation, Board, and Administration of the College.  Both documents clearly outline the responsibilities, relationships and privileges of corporation and board members, including their autonomy in the policy development and decision-making processes. Each of these two bodies has an Assessment Plan in place. However, a review of the two assessment plans indicates the need for updating and revisions. In addition, since the last Board Evaluation was conducted in 2006, another evaluation has been planned for the 2012-2013 academic year.
